BTEC Training

The FSYTA has achieved approved centre
status from Edexcel, this allows the Association to offer Edexcel qualifications. One such qualification is the "BTEC Intermediate award in Basic Firefighting Skills", the award is achieved on successful completion of the Association's "Young Person Development Programme".

The Young Person Development Programme is a structured training syllabus that is delivered by our members to provide practical and theoretical training to young people in a variety of Fire Service related subjects. Although originally designed for young people the programme can be achieved and accreditation gained by anyone that enrols into the award that satisfactorily completes the required skills.

At present enrolment into the programme/award can only be achieved by a person being connected to an approved member organisation usually as a Young Firefighter or Instructor.

The programme was developed in conjunction with our members. Its aim was to provide a programme that could be achieved by the participant that would have real value, both in participation and outcomes achieved.

The programme is in four certificated stages, participants can complete one or more of the stages but all four would be required to achieve the BTEC Award from Edexcel.

Although the programme follows a predetermined structure it is designed to allow people in as far as it is practicable to prove their knowledge in the best way that is suited to their own abilities such as practical demonstration, written evidence and question & answer. The methods best suited to each candidate are agreed between themselves and the provider, before they commence the programme, this is then evaluated and adjusted as they progress through. It is important that any candidate is supported and encouraged at all stages of the programme.
